KOMODO Wildfire Retardant Application

We use only federally certified, plant-based, non-toxic fire retardant. Today, our standard is Komodo®.

We pre‑treat vegetation fuels near structures and critical assets to reduce wildfire ignition risk.

Colorado Service Areas

  • Southwest Colorado – Telluride, Ridgway, Ouray, Durango and other mountain and high‑risk rural communities.

  • Colorado’s Front Range, including the foothills and Wildland–Urban Interface, between Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.

RedZone Application Services

  • Factory-trained applicator of Komodo Fire Systems fire retardant using the manufacturer’s equipment, formulations and methods.

  • Colorado-based – We work with local wildfire experts and vegetation management companies to create defensible solutions that fit your unique threats.

  • Transparent – No surprise billing. We quote and price on a “not-to-exceed” basis using complexity, amount of product required and distance.

  • Insured and Verifiable – We strictly adhere to the  manufacturer standards onsite.

When This Service Makes Sense

  • Properties exposed to ember-driven wildfire risk

  • Areas where vegetation cannot be fully removed

  • Clients seeking improved insurability or underwriting outcomes

  • Infrastructure or assets where ignition prevention is critical

What Fire Retardant Can—and Cannot—Do

Applying Komodo, a federally certified fire retardant, to vegetation fuels can provide months of protection. But it does not eliminate the need for appropriate vegetation management, system hardening, or emergency response. It is a tool that should be used in addition to the recommendations provided by local fire authorities and fact-based national guidelines.

How it Works

  • Vegetation is fuel.

  • When it ignites, wildfire spreads rapidly—often faster than suppression can react.

  • Komodo activates when exposed to heat, helping treated fuels resist ignition.

  • Treatments are designed to last through a typical fire season, not indefinitely.

  • Komodo is "benign by design" composed of food-safe ingredients and earth-derived minerals, free of restricted or harmful chemicals.

Other fire-retardant products and solutions.

Today, the only product that meets our internal criteria is Komodo®, a federally certified, plant‑based, non‑toxic fire retardant. We require any other product to have the following:

  • Federal certification appropriate to the application.

  • Evaluation for environmental safety.

  • Evaluation for human safety.

  • USDA Approval

  • Approval to use on public lands.

Komodo has been tested and approved by the USDA Forest Service and is listed on the Qualified Products List (QPL), meaning it meets rigorous standards for fire performance, toxicity thresholds, corrosion, and stability. Importantly, QPL inclusion does not imply that all fire retardants are environmentally benign—particularly with respect to aquatic life. Komodo’s formulation is specifically designed to minimize ecological impact relative to traditional phosphate-based retardants.
